    replacing leatherette

I am about to wrap a chest in new leatherette. I have done the top lid by the utube video from Gerstner. I would like to know if anyone has done this and the proper way to go about laying it out. I am restoring the large pattern makers chest 31!/2 width. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I can't say I have much to say in the way of encouragement or advice. Replacing leatherette is just not my field of expertise. I even sat with Paul Martin at Gerstner & Sons and sill couldn't get it right. I have done some front panels and such, but I usually avoid leatherette boxes that require total re-covering. I would rather repair and rejuvenate the existing leatherette where possible. Paul has since retired and I don't think that Gerstner has found a replacement yet.

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.
